Kathrine Switzer snuck her entry and officially became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon in 1967. During her run, she was chased and physically attacked by the Boston Marathon race director “for running in his race”. She knew what was at stake and finished the race nonetheless. Half a decade later, women were allowed to join the Boston Marathon.
She had no agenda of furthering women’s rights as young lady, but instead merely wanted to run. How then did she make this happen, despite having no agenda and living in a time where society believed women were less capable?
The power of belief… She made it happen through believing that she could complete the marathon and participating (taking action). Do you believe in your abilities to make your goals happen? Do your actions reflect this?
“Life is for participating, not for spectating.” – Kathrine Switzer
